About us...

Here is a bit about who we are and some of our interests.

John Borchert and Mike Bieke

 My brother-in-law, John and I started this page out of our love for researching our families past involvement in the Detroit Brewing Company. We started collecting memorabilia from the brewery sometime in 1999, and that led to an interest in finding out more about the brewery and our ancestors. We spent lots of time looking through books and files at the Detroit Public library, along with information gathered from fellow breweriana collectors and relatives. That led to our development of  this website in early 2003.

 We have also been home brewing our own beer for the past few years. We both have small setups in our homes, brewing about 5 1/2 gallons at a time. In the picture above we are holding original Detroit Brewing Company bottles almost 100 years old (and in perfect condition) containing our home made beer. We will have to make up some labels to go with the beer!

  We attend most of the local Detroit area breweriana collector shows, always on the lookout for more memorabilia from the brewery. If you should see us, feel free to introduce yourself and share your thoughts on the website or the brewery.

Update: I moved from Detroit to Phoenix, Arizona in April, 2004, so it's a bit harder for me to find new items to add to the webpage. I count on John a lot to find new items in the Detroit area for us. John is now the "Detroit connection" for us!
